Jamie began his career performing with an originals Ska band in Portsmouth at the age of 15. He was lucky enough to work around the UK and Europe with a number of Pop, Jazz and Big bands before moving to Newcastle in 2006 to study for a degree in Jazz, popular & Commercial music.
Since moving to the North East and graduating with a first class degree, Jamie has worked with many of the region’s top function bands as well as working as a session musician on numerous albums and singles (New York Dolls, Jess Roberts, Rachel McShane (Bellowhead), RJ Thompson….) He played with original soul/funk band Mamacoca on their UK tour and their performance at the indigo O2 Arena. He currently plays with The Strictly Smokin’ Big Band, and the new orleans style Northern Monkey Brass Band. He is also currently writing and performing his original compositions with the Jamie Toms Quartet and Not Now Charlie. Jamie has been lucky enough to perform at the Gateshead International Jazz Festival, Manchester International Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Limetree festival, Riverside festival Stockton, DJAZZ, Newcastle Jazz Festival and Lancaster Jazz Festival amongst others.
Jamie has appeared on stage with artists such as Ant & Dec, Mark Nightingale, Mike Lovett, Claire Martin, Joe Stilgoe, Dennis Rollins, Glen Harvey (Pop Idol), Smoove and Turrell and more. He has also received airplay on BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3 Jazz and BBC 6 Music as well as providing live sax for club nights across the North East.
He now works as a freelance performer and tutor based in North East England. In 2015 Jamie gained his MA in Music Management and has launched a new record label called Jazz Sound Records.
